Competition Notice
Effective April 1, 2001 through April 10, 2001, Professional Credential Services (PCS) will accept 25,000 applications for Deputy U.S. Marshal positions in the Federal Government. All applications (Qualification and Availability Form) must be postmarked on or between the opening and closing dates. If 25,000 applications are received by PCS prior to the April 10th closing date, all applications received and postmarked on that day will be accepted. Applications postmarked prior to April 1st or after April 10th will not accepted or processed. PLEASE DO NOT SEND APPLICATIONS OR RESUMES TO THE U.S. MARSHALS SERVICE.
LOCATION OF POSITIONS: Deputy U.S. Marshal positions are filled throughout the United
States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Guam.
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: Nationwide, Status and Non-Status aplicants. Qualified applicants who are eligible under special authorities may apply (i.e. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program for Displaced Federal Employees).
INTERAGENCY CAREER TRANSITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (ICTAP): Displaced Federal Employees must upon request, submit a copy of their "RIF" separation notice, a current performance rating of record (or last) of at least fully successful or equivalent, and be rated well - qualified for the the position (score 90 or above on the written test prior to the assignment of veterans preference points), in order to receive priority consideration.
QUALIFICATION REQUIRES: The brochure entitled "Deputy U.S. Marshal, GS-082-5/7 (Form USM-12)" accompanying this notice describes the duties and minimum qualification requirements for the position, i.e., written test, age, medical/physical, education and/or experience requirements, drug test, suitability/background investigation, and a valid driver's license with good driving record.
MAXIMUM AGE LIMIT: In accordance with section 103 of Public Law 100-238, effective June 4, 1991, the maximum age for original entry into Deputy U.S. marshal positions is 36. The age restriction does not apply to individuals who are 37 years old or older and have previously served in a Federal civilian law enforcement position covered by special civil service retirement provisions.
LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Individuals who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are ineligible for Federal Law Enforcement, including Deputy U.S. Marshal positions.

Your completed Qualifications & Availability Form will be processed by PCS, and if you meet age, education and/or experience requirements PCS will notify you two to three weeks in advance of the date, time and location of the written test. Please do not bring resumes, transcripts, or other personal documents to the test site. If you pass the written test these items will be requested at a later date.
NOTICE OF RESULTS: If you fail to meet age, education and/or experience requirements you may expect to receive an ineligible Notice of Results within 4 weeks. Applicants are restricted to taking the written test once in a 12-month period. If the test is taken more than once in a 12-month period, only the first score will be recognized.
